1969 Austin Mini
note: Although Kenny’s Mini is posted here on these “Not For Sale” pages, Kenny might be willing to send it to a new home – but it definitely, positively won’t be cheap! Bring an arm, a leg, your first born and a big pile of cash and he might talk to you…
This ’69 Austin Mk2 Mini has been chopped and channeled – much like an old school hot rod – by a master craftsman/fabricator with 40 years’ experience in restoration and custom builds of exotic and race cars. Built as a labor of love over a 10-year period, it’s only reluctantly offered for sale – providing it go to a good home where it will be truly appreciated, of course!
Featured in November 2006 Mini Magazine.
At first glance, it’s reminiscent of the “Mini Sprints” built in the ’60’s, but this one’s a full-custom, one-off build. There’s 2″ chopped from the bottom of the body and doors, and a 3″ chop of the roof. All steel; no fiberglass, no plastic. Cut-down side windows (including sliding ones) are tempered glass; front and rear windscreens are laminated safety glass. Unique color is Mazda “Mariner Blue” – chosen to match its period California blue-and-yellow plates.
Fresh Mincomp 1380cc w/ aluminum head and 4 speed, four-synchro transmission. Under 1,500 miles since build. Carburetion is a 45 Weber. Charging system upgraded to alternator. Its original “hydrolastic” (ie: “wet”) suspension is upgraded with (S Racer red) coil springs w/ adjustable Hi-Los. Left-hand-drive (LHD) steering.
Minilite-style (8-spoke) alloys w/ Yokohama a008 rubber. Modified Wood & Pickett-style wheel arches (ie: flares). Body color mirrors. Standard-height Mk2 grille. Full, pull-back Webasto-style (Britax) sunroof. Battery relocated to under rear seat; builder’s custom-fabricated fuel tank holds 10 gallons. Interior features wood dash, gray upholstery w/ modified Recaro-style seats.
Generates endless smiles, waves and thumbs ups wherever you go!
