Sold1963 Austin Mini
UPDATE: April 15: Seller reports it’s GONE, GONE, GONE to its new home!
This Mini is reportedly a genuine 1963 Morris “Cooper” upgraded to “Cooper S” spec, turning it into what’s typically called a “Cooper S clone.” The factory VIN identifies it as a Cooper or Cooper S model, and that it was built as a factory left-hand-drive car: KA2S4L[******].
The “S” upgrades include 1275cc engine on a four-speed, four-synchro Cooper “S” gearbox, a proper 120 mph “S” speedo, “S” disc brakes (7.5″ diameter) and “S” badging added to its original “Morris Cooper” badges.
It’s an original Mk1 Mini, so it has the distinctive doors with sliding windows, external door hinges and small oval taillights.
Exterior finish:
Bright red with a white roof, mimicking the factory race team colors; (originally red Coopers came from factory with black roofs). The body is solid and there are no rust issues, according to the seller, who reports the paint is in excellent, but not done to a concours level.
All chrome, brightwork and rubber trim is reportedly in excellent condition.
Mechanicals:
Professionally rebuilt 1275cc engine (in 2009 at cost of $5,200; receipts available). For ease of tuning and better all-around performance, fitted with single HIF SU Carburetor on Mini Spares alloy intake manifold. Has mild performance Megadyne 266 cam, Aldon A-Series distributor and Maniflow LCB exhaust system.
Exterior upgrades:
Minilite-style (8 spoke) 10″ alloys wheels with Yokohama A-008 tires. Small black wheel flares. Has fiberglass flip front (fully removable) that reduces weight and provides excellent engine access. Small black wheel arches (ie: flares) added. The flip front reportedly has some minor paint cracks. (see pics).
Handling upgrades:
Fully adjustable suspension includes Spax gas shocks and Hi-Los on all four corners; caster and camber are adjustable front and rear.
The “dry” suspension is as original; the hydrolastic “wet” suspension didn’t appear until around the 1964 model Minis, we’re told.
Interior upgrades:
Rokee wood dash, Corbeau GTA seats with fore/aft adjustment and three-point seatbelts. Carpeting and trim in light gray, seats are dark charcoal. Aftermarket leather sport steering wheel. 12v accessory outlet added.
All electrics work, including lights, turn signals, brake lights, interior lights and heater. Original generator upgraded to alternator.
According to the seller, it needs nothing but a driver. Runs well, drives well, stops well.
Titled in California with current registration. As it’s built prior to 1968, it’s exempt from all California smog testing regulations.
Located in Studio City, CA (near Universal Studios and Hollywood).
