Mini 'K' - Australian-built Cooper replica [in San Diego]

UPDATE: Seller reports it has GONE, GONE, GONE to its new home!

This Australian-built Mini "K" is the model built after the "Cooper" model name was no longer used, but it's built to a higher standard than the regular Mini. It's not a Cooper S, but are often likened to them.

The unique thing about these is that they still retain the typical Mk1 features, but have external-hinge doors with roll-up windows and "wind wings," or "quarter lights" in OZ-speak. The external door handles are the "burst proof" type used only on the last of the Mk1-style (but dubbed "Mk2 over there) Minis. (Australian-built Minis all retained the Mk1 look until the Mini "Clubman" arrived and became the only Mini model available in Australia). English-built Minis - starting in late 1967 - had Mk2 features that included a larger grille and the larger, rectangular taillights.

The Mini K's other Mk1 features include the traditional "moustache" grille with "whiskers" and the small oval taillights.

This one has a twin-carb 998cc engine with a four-speed, four-synchro transmission.

Color is a deep metallic blue, almost a "Tahiti Blue," with a silver roof and a boot-and-bonnet silver stripe.

Has Minilight-style (8-spoke) alloys shod with 165-series Yokohama A008 tires, both in like-new condition. Small black wheel arches (flares) cover the wider tires.

Interior is black vinyl with cloth inserts. Aftermarket Mountney leather steering wheel. CD player with amp in the boot.

Has been California registered and titled for a number of years.
