1380cc Red Road Rocket (now $13.5k / new pics!) [in Sherman Oaks, SoCal]
UPDATE: Seller reports it's GONE, GONE, GONE - and it won't be long before it's in its new home in Biloxi, Mississippi...
This very clean red Mini reportedly started life as a 1960 Morris Mk1, but severe rust over time meant a new Mk5 body shell was in order when fully rebuilt some 15-or-so years ago. Following that, in 2000, upgrades included an 1380cc, 8.4" disc brakes and other goodies. Since that time, only 20k miles have been clocked.
It still looks and drives as well as it did when it rolled out one of the top Mini specialist/build shops in the UK - then "crossed the pond," as they say.
EXTERIOR:
Paintwork is Tornado Red w/ a custom airbrushed red/yellow checkerboard roof pattern, topped with a glass sunroof and roof-mount antenna. Alloys are powder-coated 13"x7" Minilites w/ near-new Yokohama 175/50 rubber, covered with Sportspack wheel arches (ie: flares).
ENGINE:
1380cc engine is said to put out 100+ HP, with mods that include high-lift cam, ported unleaded head and 1 3/4" SU carb (with bulkhead boxed for a Weber). Four-speed, four-synchro gearbox is an "A+ rod shift" (smoother shifting) model. A low-restriction air filter is paired with a low-restriction header and stainless exhaust exiting via a center-exit tailpipe. Engine compartment upgrades include alloy rocker cover, lots of shiny bits, and blue silicone hoses. Battery is Optima dry cell.
SUSPENSION/BRAKES:
Gas shocks, Hi-Lo kit (adjustable suspension height), Metro turbo disc brakes on front, drums in rear.
INTERIOR:
Recaro full leather interior in black w/ red trim; matching door cards. Carpeting is black; mats are black w/ red trim. Walnut dash includes three magnolia-face gauges w/ additional center gauge. Center console added w/ AM/FM/CD player w/ remote. Additional rear speakers. Alloy door furniture.
